Thu Dec 26 02:55:15 UTC 2024: ## Hyderabad’s Vacant Market Buildings to Become Youth Skill Centers
**HYDERABAD, December 26, 2024** – Over 20 vacant model market buildings in Hyderabad, constructed at a cost of ₹50 crore, will finally be repurposed as skill development centers for youth and women. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) plans to establish two centers in each of its six zones, providing employment skills training.
Two proposals are currently awaiting approval. The Light House Communities Foundation will partner with the GHMC to establish a center in Mallepally, focusing on disadvantaged women and youth from approximately 8,400 nearby slum households. The Dr. Vijay Kumar Datla Foundation, a CSR arm of Biological E. Limited, will establish a second center in Alwal, serving the youth of Medchal-Malkajgiri and Hyderabad districts.
Both centers will offer training, resume building, mock interviews, and job placement assistance. The Mallepally center aims to train 600 individuals annually, with a 50% female target, and provide digital and English language skills.
The initiative addresses the long-standing issue of underutilized model market buildings, many of which remain vacant due to location and accessibility issues. The GHMC had previously solicited suggestions for their use, including cooperative credit societies and community centers. This repurposing represents a significant investment in Hyderabad’s youth and a solution to the problem of unused infrastructure.
