**KOCHI, December 26, 2024** – The Matsya Thozhilali Aikya Vedhi (Fishermen’s Unity Forum) has vehemently opposed the Kerala government’s plans to build a nuclear power plant in the state. The group alleges that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Electricity Minister K. Krishnankutty have been secretly negotiating with Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to establish the plant along the Kollam-Alappuzha coast.
While initial proposals suggested locations in Kasargod and Thrissur, the Vedhi claims the current coastal site is favored for its readily available resources. Spokesperson Charles George accused the government of a year-long conspiracy, stating that the recent discussions are merely a continuation of this clandestine effort. The fishermen’s group is now calling for the immediate abandonment of the project.
