Wed Dec 25 23:15:00 UTC 2024: ## Odisha’s Ruling Party Criticizes Government’s Inaction in Governor’s Son Assault Case

**Bhubaneswar, Odisha –** The Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Odisha’s ruling party, sharply criticized the state government on Wednesday for its alleged inaction following accusations that the son of the outgoing Governor, Raghubar Das, assaulted a government employee. The incident, which allegedly occurred on July 7th at Puri’s Raj Bhawan during a presidential visit, involved the alleged assault and forced humiliation of the employee.

BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty stated that despite the seriousness of the allegations, no action was taken against the Governor’s son. He highlighted the party’s efforts to bring the matter to light, including disrupting Assembly proceedings to demand swift action. While the government ordered an investigation, Mohanty claimed that no meaningful action followed the initial announcement.

The BJD questioned the state government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, suggesting that the lack of action exposed a deterioration in law and order since the BJP government assumed power. The party noted that while the central government ultimately replaced Governor Das, concerns remain regarding whether justice will be served in the assault case.

Governor Das, who resigned on Tuesday, citing personal reasons, expressed gratitude to the people of Odisha in a press release. His resignation fueled speculation about a potential return to active politics, a prospect he neither confirmed nor denied. His extensive tours of Odisha last year, which sparked political controversy, had previously drawn criticism from the BJD, who alleged that those visits were politically motivated. The opposition parties, BJD and Congress, had previously staged protests demanding strict action against the alleged assailant.
