Thu Dec 26 01:10:00 UTC 2024: **Deep Depression in Bay of Bengal to Weaken, but More Expected Later This Month**
Visakhapatnam, India – A deep depression that formed in the Bay of Bengal on November 16th continues to linger, defying expectations. Despite changing direction six times in ten days, it remains a deep depression, though unfavorable upper atmospheric conditions are preventing it from strengthening into a cyclonic storm. Warm sea surface temperatures are preventing it from weakening further, a situation weather experts describe as unusual.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts the system will weaken into a low-pressure area over the sea by Thursday, moving northwestward. Light to moderate rainfall is expected across the state, with heavy rainfall anticipated in Chittoor, Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore, and Prakasam districts. Port warnings remain in effect for the third consecutive day due to the deep depression. Light rain has already fallen in several districts, including Parvathipuram Manyam, Vijayanagaram, Tirupati, Bapatla, and Srikakulam. Coastal areas are also experiencing a significant drop in temperatures.
Meanwhile, another low-pressure area is forecast to develop near the Andaman Islands after November 27th, potentially moving towards Sri Lanka.
