Thu Dec 26 16:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Severe Storms Predicted for Houston Area Today
**HOUSTON, TX (December 26, 2024)** – Houston residents are urged to be prepared for severe weather today, according to KPRC 2 meteorologists Justin Stapleton and Daji Aswad. Patchy dense fog is expected this morning, giving way to strong to severe storms this afternoon and evening.
A strong low-pressure system moving across Texas is fueling the storms, with some already developing in West Texas. While the morning will see only scattered showers, conditions will deteriorate rapidly throughout the day. The potent system could produce isolated tornadoes, heavy downpours, lightning, and hail.
Though the potential for severe weather exists, meteorologists expect the system to move quickly, with most storms exiting eastward into Louisiana by this evening. Friday will be mostly dry, with another rain system expected Saturday, though no severe weather is anticipated. Temperatures will remain in the 70s, with drier conditions expected by the weekend. New Year’s Eve looks good, with a wet New Year’s Day followed by temperatures in the 60s and lows in the 40s to start 2025.
Residents are advised to monitor weather updates throughout the day and download the Storm Tracker 2 weather app for real-time alerts.
