Thu Dec 26 17:39:22 UTC 2024: **AIMIM Condemns Resumption of Salman Rushdie’s “The Satanic Verses” Sales in India**

**Mumbai, December 26, 2024** – The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has joined other Muslim organizations in protesting the return of Salman Rushdie’s controversial novel, “The Satanic Verses,” to Indian bookshelves. Following the Delhi High Court’s decision to effectively lift the decades-old ban due to the government’s inability to produce the original ban notification, the book is now available in select bookstores.

Former AIMIM MLA Warish Pathan denounced the resumption of sales, citing the book’s historically inflammatory content and the violent reactions it provoked globally upon its initial release in 1988. He recalled past protests in Mumbai, including instances of fatalities during police crackdowns, and urged the central government to appeal the High Court’s decision and reinstate the ban to prevent further unrest.

Pathan also criticized the lack of action against Ramgiri Maharaj, who allegedly made derogatory remarks about Prophet Mohammed, highlighting a perceived double standard in the government’s handling of such controversies. The AIMIM’s condemnation underscores the ongoing sensitivity surrounding the novel and its potential to reignite religious tensions in India.
