**CHENNAI, December 26, 2024** – A four-day conference on dance, emphasizing the blend of tradition and contemporary expression, commenced Thursday at the Krishna Gana Sabha in Chennai. The event, featuring 108 artistes across 24 sessions, includes 10 performances, three workshops, and two panel discussions.
Central Sanskrit University Vice-Chancellor Shrinivasa Varakhedi inaugurated the conference, highlighting the importance of integrating “smriti” (memory) and “anubhav” (experience) in Indian education. He emphasized the value of connecting like-minded individuals and valuing contemporary experiences in preserving and evolving artistic traditions.
Kathak and Bharatanatyam exponents Nirupama and Rajendra also participated in the inauguration, describing the conference’s theme, “Abhijata,” as embodying the timeless nature of Indian art forms.
The Natya Kala Vishardha award was presented to art researcher, curator, and consultant Usha. Krishna Gana Sabha CEO R.K. Sashwati Prabhu also addressed the gathering. The conference promises a vibrant exploration of Indian dance traditions.
