ANAKAPALLI, Andhra Pradesh, Dec. 26, 2024 – The Anakapalli district administration has launched a major road construction project aimed at eliminating the traditional practice of carrying goods and people in “dolis” (litters) in 17 tribal settlements across four mandals. The initiative, part of the state government’s “doli-free Andhra Pradesh” mission, involves 21 road construction projects with a total estimated cost of ₹21.79 crore.

The projects, initiated following a survey identifying unconnected hamlets lacking proper medical and transportation facilities, are expected to significantly improve the lives of tribal communities. Nine projects in Ravikamatam mandal (₹4.45 crore) will connect several habitations, including Gadabapalem, Pedagaruvu, Ajeypuram, and Nerellabanda. Three projects in Rolugunta mandal (₹8.10 crore) will benefit Losangi, Korupolu, and Peetrugedda, while seven in Devarapalli mandal (₹8.27 crore) will connect Kodapalli, Ramannapalem, Polagaruvu, Butchampalem, Borrachinta, Boddagummi, K.T. Palem, and Godugumamidi. Two projects in Golugonda mandal (₹97 lakh) will serve Antumanujoru, Kasimi, Ruthalapalem, and Pathamallampeta.

District Collector Vijaya Krishnan stated that the government is committed to providing road connectivity to all tribal habitations, regardless of size. The administration aims to complete most of the works by Sankranti (January 2025) and the remainder by February 2025, bringing vital infrastructure to these remote areas and ending the reliance on the antiquated doli system. The progress of the projects is being closely monitored to ensure timely completion.
