Thu Dec 26 01:10:00 UTC 2024: **Coastal Andhra Pradesh on High Alert as Low Pressure System Brings Heavy Rains and High Winds**

**Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh – December 24, 2024** – Coastal Andhra Pradesh is bracing for heavy rainfall and strong winds as a low-pressure system persists over the west-central Bay of Bengal. The system, currently situated near northern Tamil Nadu and southern coastal Andhra Pradesh, is expected to weaken over the next 24 hours, according to weather officials.

However, the impact is already being felt. Moderate to light rainfall is predicted across the coastal region, with heavier downpours expected in Prakasam, Tirupati, and Nellore districts on December 25th. Winds are forecast to reach speeds of 35-45 kilometers per hour.

In response, port authorities along the Andhra Pradesh coast have issued a level three danger warning, urging fishermen to remain ashore. Many fishing boats already at sea have returned to port. The warning comes after light to moderate rainfall began in the early morning hours in coastal areas of Bapatla district.

The heavy rainfall warnings have also raised concerns among farmers, particularly those who have recently harvested rice crops and are now rushing to protect their yields from the unexpected downpour.
