Thu Dec 26 15:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Delhi NCR Braces for Two Days of Rain, Strong Winds; Yellow Alert Issued
**New Delhi, India** – Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) are expected to experience light to moderate rain accompanied by strong winds over the next two days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced. A yellow alert has been issued for the next three days, beginning December 27th.
The IMD attributes this sudden weather change to the interaction of two weather systems: a fresh western disturbance active over the western Himalayas and northwestern plains, and a cyclonic circulation over Punjab and neighboring areas. A low-pressure area over the west-central Bay of Bengal has also moved westwards, intensifying the effect.
The convergence of the western disturbance and moist easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal will create a robust system, leading to light to moderate rain with thunderstorms across northwest and central India on December 27th and 28th. Wind speeds could reach 30-50 km/h.
Specifically for Delhi and NCR, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for light to moderate rain with thunderstorms on December 27th, with winds gusting up to 30-40 km/h. Moderate fog is predicted in the mornings, with fog or mist likely in the evenings and nights. Similar conditions are expected on December 28th, also under a yellow alert.
While December 29th is forecast to be rain-free, a yellow alert remains in place due to anticipated moderate to dense fog in most areas. Clear skies are expected during the day. This weather pattern is likely to persist until January 1st.
The rain in the plains and snowfall in the mountains are expected to cause a drop in temperatures, leading to increased cold conditions. Delhi’s maximum temperature is predicted to be around 20°C and minimum around 11°C on December 27th and 28th, rising slightly on December 29th. Temperatures are expected to be around 22°C maximum and 6-7°C minimum by December 30th and 31st.
Dense fog was reported across much of Delhi on Thursday morning, with visibility dropping to 100 meters at the Safdarjung weather station. The maximum temperature recorded was 24.1°C, and the minimum was 8.2°C.
