Tue Dec 24 18:58:57 UTC 2024: ## PMK Threatens to Campaign Against DMK Over Vanniyar Reservation

**Kancheepuram, December 25, 2024** – Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) president Anbumani Ramadoss launched a scathing attack on the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu, accusing it of failing to implement a Supreme Court order granting 10.5% internal reservation for the Vanniyar community within the Most Backward Classes (MBC) category. Leading protests across the state, Dr. Ramadoss linked the reservation to the lack of a caste-based census, a key element in justifying the quota.

Dr. Ramadoss’s condemnation focused on the DMK’s alleged inaction despite the Supreme Court ruling, which stipulated that data was required to support the reservation. He stated that one thousand days have passed since the verdict with no action from the government, labeling the situation an injustice to the Vanniyar community. However, he offered a conditional olive branch, promising unconditional support to the DMK in the 2026 Assembly elections if the party provides 15% internal reservation to the Vanniyar community. Conversely, he threatened a state-wide campaign against Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, portraying him as an “enemy of Vanniyars,” if the demand isn’t met.

Echoing this sentiment, PMK founder S. Ramadoss led a demonstration in Villupuram, further criticizing the DMK’s alleged aversion towards the Vanniyar community and predicting the DMK’s defeat in the upcoming elections. He highlighted the DMK’s failure to conduct a caste census despite opportunities in 1989, 2010, and 2021, emphasizing that other states have successfully conducted such censuses. He argued that the census was crucial for maintaining the existing 69% reservation in the state. The PMK leaders asserted that their focus is on the well-being of the community, not electoral gains.
