MILWAUKEE, WI – The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) Panthers men’s basketball team concluded their first semester with a resounding 92-57 victory over Division III North Central College on Sunday. The win improved their home record to 6-0, their best start at the Klotsche Center since the 2005-06 season. Head coach Bart Lundy expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, highlighting their 25-for-36 performance from the free-throw line and 45 rebounds, while committing a season-low six turnovers.
The Panthers’ overall record stands at 9-4, with a 2-0 start in Horizon League play. Their success at the Klotsche Center continues under Lundy, boasting an 11-1 record. Lundy emphasized the growing fan support and expressed hope for increased student attendance in the second semester.
A key component of the Panthers’ success is junior forward Jamichael Stillwell, who entered the game as the nation’s leading rebounder in Division I basketball. Despite a relatively quiet 12-point, 10-rebound performance due to foul trouble, Stillwell still achieved his fourth consecutive double-double, tying a program record. Coach Lundy viewed Stillwell’s technical foul as a learning experience, emphasizing the need for him to manage his intensity.
The return of senior guard Erik Pratt has significantly boosted the team. After missing eight games, Pratt contributed a game-high 20 points, providing a much-needed outside shooting threat. His performance, along with the anticipated return of senior forward Faizon Fields from injury in early January, promises to strengthen the team further. Fields, who underwent finger surgery, is expected to be fully cleared for play on January 8th. Junior wing Aaron Franklin is also expected back after Christmas, recovering from a foot injury.
The Panthers resume Horizon League play on December 29th against IU-Indianapolis at the Klotsche Center, aiming to build on their strong first-semester performance and contend for a successful second half of the season.
