**KOZHIKODE, Kerala –** A week-long national tribal festival, “Nera Thinka-24,” opened Tuesday at the Kerala Institute for Research, Training and Development Studies of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (KIRTADS) in Kozhikode. The festival, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of tribal communities across India, features a vibrant display of food, art, literature, medicine, and handicrafts.
Participants from Kerala, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu are exhibiting their unique traditions. Highlights include an ethnic food festival (“Uchal”), a tribal literary camp (“Bellibane”), a tribal medicine camp, and a tribal dance festival. Attendees can enjoy attractions such as Toda embroidery from the Nilgiri hills, ethnic cuisine from Maharashtra, unique tuber preparations from the Western Ghats, and intricately woven bamboo baskets by Nilambur women.
The festival, open to the public from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, will run until December 30th.
