**Los Angeles, CA** – Southern Californians can expect a cool, wet Christmas Eve followed by a sunny Christmas Day, according to the National Weather Service. Showers will begin in Los Angeles, Ventura, Orange, and San Bernardino counties late afternoon on December 24th, moving south into San Diego County. Rainfall totals are predicted to be less than half an inch in the mountains, and around a tenth of an inch in coastal and valley areas. Snow accumulation of a couple of inches is possible above 7,000 feet.
Highs on Christmas Eve will range from the low to mid-60s in the valleys and inland areas, and around 59-60 degrees along the coast. The Coachella Valley will remain dry with partly cloudy skies and a high of 75 degrees. Strong gusty winds, reaching up to 55 mph at night, are anticipated in mountain passes and deserts. Overnight lows will drop to the mid-40s.
Christmas Day will bring sunny skies and cooler temperatures. However, a coastal flood advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. on December 25th for Ventura County due to high surf, with waves potentially reaching 12-18 feet. Los Angeles and Orange County beaches will also experience high surf, with waves reaching 8-12 feet and 8 feet respectively. The National Weather Service warns of potential coastal flooding in low-lying areas.
