**Kotla Sultan Singh, Punjab, India –** December 25, 2024 – Hundreds of fans from across India gathered in Kotla Sultan Singh, the birthplace of legendary singer Mohammed Rafi, to mark the 100th anniversary of his birth. The village witnessed an outpouring of affection for the iconic playback singer, with fans travelling from as far as Jammu and Delhi to pay their respects.

Among those present was Om Prakash from Jammu, who described Rafi’s enduring legacy, stating that his songs remain as popular today as they were during the singer’s lifetime. Eighty-year-old Adarsh Kumar Pruthi and his wife, from Delhi, expressed their joy at finally visiting the village on this momentous occasion.

The celebrations included a cake-cutting ceremony and visits to significant locations in Rafi’s life, including the site where his old house once stood and the school he attended. Village elder Hardeep Singh guided many of the visitors.

Rafi’s journey from imitating a fakir’s chants in his village to becoming one of India’s most celebrated singers was recounted, highlighting his first public performance at age 13 and his subsequent move to Mumbai in 1944 to pursue his career. His collaborations with leading Bollywood stars and music directors, resulting in timeless classics, were also remembered.

The event underscored Rafi’s continued relevance and the deep affection he holds in the hearts of millions even decades after his death in 1980.
