**KOCHI, December 24, 2024** – A premature baby weighing just 935 grams underwent a successful interventional procedure to treat a heart condition at Lisie Hospital in Kochi. The infant, born to parents from Kanjani in Thrissur, was referred from another hospital after an antenatal diagnosis of heart disease.

The procedure, a PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosus) stenting, was performed under the Kerala government’s ‘Hridyam’ scheme by a team led by Dr. Anil S.R., head of the department of paediatric cardiology. A coronary stent was deployed, improving the baby’s oxygen saturation levels and allowing the discontinuation of prostaglandin. The baby was subsequently removed from the ventilator and started feeding. The hospital released a statement highlighting the successful outcome.
