**London** – A new biopic, “Better Man,” will tell the story of British pop icon Robbie Williams, but with a twist. Director Michael Gracey, known for “The Greatest Showman,” has chosen to depict the singer, famous for his 14 UK number one singles, as a CGI monkey.

While a household name in Britain, Williams remains relatively unknown in the US, a fact Gracey acknowledges. He stated that the unconventional portrayal was essential to the film’s concept. “If I hadn’t been able to crack that as an idea, I wouldn’t have made the film,” Gracey said.

The film will chronicle Williams’ meteoric rise to fame in the 90s and early 2000s as a member of Take That and then as a solo artist, alongside his struggles with depression and addiction. Williams himself, at 50, describes “Better Man” as a “very modern musical” exploring themes of “enduring and overcoming, near death experiences, self-abuse and impostor syndrome.” The film promises a raw depiction of his personal battles alongside his flamboyant stage persona.
