Tue Dec 24 16:29:14 UTC 2024: ## Two Tamil Nadu Bridges to Undergo Rehabilitation

**Chennai, December 25, 2024** – Two state highways bridges in Kancheepuram district, Tamil Nadu, are slated for major rehabilitation work. The bridges, located at Sevilimedu on the Kancheepuram-Vandavasi Road (SH 116) and Oragadam on the Vandalur-Wallajabad Road (SH 48), carry a high volume of heavy traffic due to their proximity to industrial corridors.

A team from IIT-Madras recently inspected both structures and will soon submit a report outlining necessary repairs. Concerns have been raised about cracks on the Oragadam bridge, prompting the Highways Department to implement traffic control measures including speed reductions and lane closures. Repairs will focus on replacing expansion joints, bearings, and the wearing coat on the carriageway. Cracks will be filled using grouting to extend the bridge’s lifespan and ensure public safety.

The Sevilimedu bridge, constructed between 2002 and 2003, requires similar repairs. The Highways Department also plans to construct a new bridge adjacent to the existing structure to alleviate traffic congestion. Work on both bridges will be scheduled to minimize disruption.
