**Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu, December 25, 2024** – An 81-year-old former Central government employee in Sivaganga was defrauded of ₹46.07 lakh in a sophisticated cybercrime scam. Impersonating CBI officials, a gang convinced the victim he was under house arrest for illicit online transactions.

Through a WhatsApp video call and fabricated court documents, the criminals pressured the man into transferring the large sum to their bank accounts. The deception only came to light when the victim’s son contacted the Sivaganga cybercrime police. An investigation is underway.
