Wed Dec 25 01:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Heavy Rainfall Expected in Andhra Pradesh Due to Deep Depression

**Visakhapatnam, October 29:** Andhra Pradesh is bracing for widespread rainfall over the next three days due to a deep depression persisting in the southwest and west-central Bay of Bengal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning, predicting heavy rainfall in Prakasam, Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore, and Chittoor districts on Wednesday. Thunderstorms are also likely.

The depression, moving west-northwest, is expected to weaken gradually by Wednesday, according to the IMD. A trough extending up to 4.5 km above sea level is contributing to the weather system. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea on Wednesday. All ports in the state continue to have a number 3 danger warning.

The western trough over northern India is drawing the depression and associated moisture towards it. The proximity of the depression to the coast has resulted in cloudy skies along the coastal districts. Temperatures across the state have dropped by 3-7 degrees Celsius in several locations including Kalingapatnam, Visakhapatnam, Tuni, Kakinada, Machilipatnam, Nanga, Gannavaram, Bapatla, Ongole, Kavali, Nellore, and Tirupati.

Light rain and cool winds were reported in several districts including Alluri Sitarama Raju, Vizianagaram, Krishna, Bapatla, Eluru, East Godavari, and Visakhapatnam on Tuesday. In Visakhapatnam, the intense waves caused by the weather system led to soil and rock erosion near the Submarine Museum.

Rainfall is expected to subside after Saturday.
