**STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA –** Sunil Yadav, a notorious drug smuggler wanted in multiple cases across Rajasthan, India, was killed in a shootout in Stockton, California. Yadav, who allegedly used the Pakistan route to smuggle drugs into India, had a history of serious crimes, including his involvement in a Rs 300 crore (approximately $36 million USD) drug seizure several years ago.
Rohit Godara, a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility for the killing. Godara stated the act was revenge for the death of his brother, Ankit Bhadu, who was killed in a police encounter. He alleges that Yadav collaborated with Punjab police in Bhadu’s death, prompting Yadav’s flight to the US two years ago under a false identity. Godara further claims Yadav was sharing information about the gang’s members while in the US.
Yadav, originally from Abohar, Punjab, had previously been associated with the Bishnoi gang but his alleged role in Bhadu’s death led to a bitter falling out. He had also resided in Dubai, where he was previously arrested by authorities in collaboration with Rajasthan police before being released on bail after his arrest for the murder of a jeweler in Rajasthan’s Ganganagar district.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Yadav’s death in Stockton. The use of a fake passport and the international implications of the killing are key aspects of the ongoing investigation.
