Tue Dec 24 05:06:58 UTC 2024: ## US Raises Concerns Over Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh
**San Francisco, Dec 24, 2024** – Amidst growing international concern over violence against the Hindu minority in Bangladesh, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan spoke with Bangladesh’s interim government Chief Adviser, Muhammad Yunus, on Monday. Both leaders affirmed their commitment to protecting the human rights of all citizens regardless of religious affiliation, according to a White House statement.
The call follows recent statements by Indian-American Congressman Shri Thanedar urging the White House to address the issue forcefully. Thanedar called for the US to pressure Yunus to fulfill his pledge to restore peace and equality in Bangladesh.
The conversation took place less than a month before the presidential transition, with Donald Trump set to assume office on January 20th.
HinduAction, a advocacy group, reported a surge in attacks against Hindus over the past two weeks. Executive director Utsav Chakrabarti criticized Yunus’s leadership, alleging failure to control Jamaat-e-Islami allies implicated in the violence. Chakrabarti called for US sanctions against Bangladesh and the creation of safe zones for religious minorities. The situation remains tense as the international community presses for action to protect the rights of Bangladesh’s Hindu population.
