BENGALURU, INDIA – December 24, 2024 – Sruthi Vijayachandran, known as Sruthi VJ, a singer-songwriter based between Bengaluru and California, has released her debut EP, “Better Love.” The five-song EP, available on all major streaming platforms, explores themes of personal growth and the impact of relationships.
Sruthi, who left the corporate world during the pandemic to pursue her musical passion, collaborated with producer Richard Andrew Dudley. Their partnership began with pandemic-era mash-ups and covers, evolving into the creation of original material for “Better Love.”
Sruthi’s musical journey began with Carnatic lessons at age five, followed by involvement in choirs and musicals during her time at Mount Carmel College. This diverse background is reflected in her music, which blends Indian and Western influences and incorporates multiple languages. She notes that “Better Love” traces a journey from the comfort of home to the complexities of adulthood, with each song representing a unique stage in that evolution.
The EP includes her previously released singles, “Jee Bar Ke,” a fusion of Indian and Western styles, and “Snatch To Me,” a tribute to gun violence survivors. Dudley, who runs the Moksha music academy in Bengaluru, praised Sruthi’s versatility and linguistic skills, comparing her to established artists Shriya Ghoshal and Jonita Gandhi. He highlighted the collaborative nature of their work, with Sruthi providing the lyrical content and Dudley focusing on arrangements and instrumentation.
Sruthi emphasizes her dedication to accuracy in the various languages she sings, consulting with native speakers to ensure authenticity. She plans to focus on live performances in 2025, along with the release of new music, including more multilingual songs.
