**Vijayawada, December 24, 2024** – A team of six final-year Computer Science Engineering students from SRM University-A.P. has won first prize in the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2024, held at IIT Jammu. The team, comprising Akash Meruva, Sikindhar Jaladi, Sashank Sakkurthi, Sathwik Batta, Cherish Polu, and Pranathi Jayanthi, impressed judges with their innovative solution to enhance Android security.
Competing against over 88,000 registered teams from across India, the SRM team developed a web framework to bolster security features in Android 14 and higher. Their project was one of five finalists selected from 80 submissions for the National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre (NCIIPC). After a grueling 36-hour hackathon, the team secured the top prize, a cash award of ₹1 lakh.
A team member highlighted a memorable interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the event via an online platform. The SIH, a nationwide initiative, encourages students to tackle real-world challenges, fostering innovation and problem-solving skills. This year’s hackathon saw participation from 254 organizations presenting diverse challenges.
