**Imphal, Manipur –** In an effort to quell ongoing ethnic violence, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced that newly recruited police cadets, representing both Meitei and Kuki communities, will be deployed together across the state. Nearly 2,000 cadets graduated from the Lachit Borphukan Police Academy on Monday, bolstering the state’s police force.
The Chief Minister acknowledged past community-based divisions in police postings, stating that this practice was a consequence of the current situation and would not be repeated. He emphasized the importance of the newly trained officers working together to restore peace and unity in the state.
While acknowledging the complex and long-term nature of the law and order challenges, Mr. Singh expressed optimism about returning peace to the region. He further addressed the issue of illegal Bangladeshi immigration, asserting that it’s a regional problem requiring a collaborative response from neighboring states. The cadet class comprised a diverse range of ethnicities, with 62% Meitei, 12% Kuki, and 26% from Naga and other tribes.
