Tue Dec 24 01:34:12 UTC 2024: ## Shami Ruled Out of Remaining Australia Tests Due to Knee Swelling

**Mumbai, India –** Indian speedster Mohammed Shami will miss the remaining two Test matches against Australia due to a minor knee swelling, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Monday. The injury, described as a result of increased bowling workload after a period of inactivity, requires further recovery time.

Shami, who played recently in domestic matches for Bengal, had been the subject of much speculation regarding his fitness for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Despite playing in the Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the BCCI ultimately decided against including him in the squad for the Australia tour.

The BCCI’s official statement detailed that the swelling in Shami’s left knee is considered “on the expected lines” given his recent increased bowling activity. Medical assessments have determined that he needs more time for controlled bowling loads before being considered for Test matches.

His participation in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy will also depend on his recovery progress. Shami will continue rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence, focusing on strength and conditioning to prepare him for the demands of Test cricket. His last international appearance was in the 2023 ODI World Cup final. The news comes after repeated inquiries from the media and captain Rohit Sharma regarding Shami’s fitness.
