**Washington, DC** – The District of Columbia government will observe Christmas Day on Wednesday, December 25, resulting in altered service schedules for various departments. While many essential services will remain operational, others will be closed or operate on reduced hours.

**Essential Services Open:**

* **Emergency Shelters:** All low-barrier shelters for the homeless will remain open 24/7. Overflow and hypothermia shelters will also be open. Individuals seeking shelter assistance can call the DC Shelter Hotline at (202) 399-7093 or 311.
* **Mental Health Support:** The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline offers free, confidential support 24/7.
* **Downtown Day Services Center:** Open 8 am to 3 pm on December 25th.

* **Parks and Recreation:** Outdoor parks, playgrounds, and athletic facilities will remain open, with permitted events proceeding as scheduled.

**Services with Altered Schedules:**

* **Trash & Recycling:** Collection will be suspended on December 25th, with collections “sliding” to later in the week, through Saturday.
* **Transfer Stations:** Fort Totten Transfer Station will be closed on December 25th.
* **DC Department of Transportation (DDOT):** Construction and non-emergency work zones will be suspended on December 25th. Reversible lane operations will also be suspended.
* **Parking Enforcement:** Suspended on December 25th, except for Streetcar ticketing and towing.
* **DC Circulator:** Closed on December 25th.
* **DC Streetcar:** Closed on December 25th.
* **DC Public Schools (DCPS):** Closed December 23rd – January 1st.
* **DC Public Library (DCPL):** Closes at 1 pm on December 24th and closed December 25th.
* **Recreation Centers:** DPR recreation centers, community centers, and indoor aquatic centers will be closed on December 25th.
* **Department of Human Services, DMV, Department of Employment Services:** All closed on December 25th. Online services are encouraged where available.
* **Department of Buildings (DOB):** No construction permitted without an after-hours permit.
