BHOPAL, INDIA – December 24, 2024 – The Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta Police have seized assets worth ₹7.98 crore (approximately $9.7 million USD) from a former State Transport Department constable, Saurabh Sharma, and his associates. The seizure, following raids on December 18 and 19, included ₹2.87 crore in cash, 234 kg of silver, jewelry, vehicles, and other assets.

Sharma, who retired voluntarily in 2023 after being appointed on compassionate grounds in 2015 following his father’s death, allegedly amassed the wealth through corrupt practices. A significant portion of the assets, including ₹1.15 crore in cash and ₹50 lakh worth of jewelry, was recovered from Sharma’s residence. Further searches at his office yielded an additional ₹1.72 crore in cash and 234 kg of silver valued at ₹2.10 crore.

The Income Tax department also conducted a separate operation, seizing over ₹10 crore in cash and more than 50 kg of gold from a vehicle belonging to associate Chetan Singh Gaud.
