**Mumbai, India** – Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli is recovering well after a recent health crisis that saw him hospitalized in Thane’s Akruti Hospital. The 52-year-old, who had been experiencing severe health issues for the past month, was admitted on Saturday with severe cramps, fever, dizziness, and an inability to sit or walk.
Doctors diagnosed Kambli with a severe urinary tract infection and electrolyte imbalance. Dr. Vivek Dwivedi, Kambli’s treating physician, confirmed that low sodium and potassium levels contributed to his symptoms. He is now responding well to treatment and is reportedly in good spirits.
Kambli, who recently revealed a previous hospitalization for a urinary infection, expressed gratitude to his doctors, stating, “I am alive because of the doctors here.” He even recounted an emotional moment of holding his doctor’s hand, echoing a similar gesture he once shared with his former teammate Sachin Tendulkar. The hospital’s in-charge, S Singh, has assured Kambli of lifelong free treatment.
While Kambli’s recent health struggles have been significant, his positive attitude and improved condition are encouraging signs. He has greeted doctors, staff, and fans visiting him at the hospital.
Kambli’s financial situation has been a concern for some time. He relies on a monthly pension from the BCCI and has previously undergone 14 rehabilitation programs. The 1983 World Cup-winning team has offered assistance, contingent on Kambli undergoing further rehabilitation, a condition he has readily accepted.
Despite his struggles, Kambli’s career highlights remain unforgettable. He burst onto the international scene in 1994, scoring consecutive double centuries against England and Zimbabwe. However, his career was cut short in 2000 at the age of 28. His later years have seen him navigate personal challenges and financial difficulties. This latest health crisis underscores the ongoing support he needs.
