Tue Dec 24 04:50:00 UTC 2024: ## Canucks Fall in Overtime Thriller Against Senators, Despite Late Comeback

**Vancouver, BC** – The Vancouver Canucks suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 overtime loss to the Ottawa Senators on December 21st, despite a spirited late-game rally. The Canucks had previously defeated the San Jose Sharks 3-2 on November 24th.

The Senators jumped out to an early lead, with goals from Claude Giroux and Shane Pinto. Brock Boeser responded for Vancouver late in the first period, assisted by Quinn Hughes and Phillip Di Giuseppe. Hughes then tied the game with his eighth goal of the season, assisted by Conor Garland and J.T. Miller, with only seconds remaining in the first period.

Pinto scored his second of the game early in the second, before Jake DeBrusk’s goal evened the score again. Josh Norris put Ottawa back ahead before Boeser’s second goal of the night, assisted by Di Giuseppe and Pius Suter, tied the game at 4-4 with just under five minutes left in regulation. However, Jake Sanderson’s overtime goal secured the victory for Ottawa just 15 seconds into the extra period.

Quinn Hughes led the Canucks in shots with five, while Dakota Joshua recorded five hits and Derek Forbort blocked three shots. Goaltender Kevin Lankinen made 17 saves.

In the Canucks’ previous game against the San Jose Sharks, Nico Sturm, Pius Suter (twice), and Jake DeBrusk scored the goals in a 3-2 victory. Suter’s second goal, with only 26 seconds left in the third period, proved to be the game-winner. Quinn Hughes led the team with six shots on goal in that game.

Jake DeBrusk was named November’s player of the month (20 points), while Kevin Lankinen earned the October award (25 points). The awards are based on a three-star selection system, with five points awarded per selection.
