Mon Dec 23 22:50:00 UTC 2024: ## BJP Cancels Madhya Pradesh Internal Elections Amidst Fraud Claims

**Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh –** The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Madhya Pradesh has suspended internal elections in at least 18 electoral blocks following the discovery of widespread irregularities. The cancellations, affecting the recent polls for 1,300 mandal (block) and district-level representatives, stem from an internal review that uncovered numerous candidates providing false information regarding their age and criminal history.

According to a senior BJP leader, over 100 complaints alleging electoral violations were received by the party. An appeal committee, headed by former Lok Sabha member Vivek Shejwalkar, investigated these complaints and subsequently recommended the cancellations and suspensions. Shejwalkar confirmed that the committee’s findings, which included instances of candidates misrepresenting their age, concealing criminal records, and lacking official party membership, have been submitted to senior party leaders. The party will now review these findings and make final decisions regarding the affected elections.

The age limit for block presidents was set at 45 years. Seoni district saw the highest number of cancelled or suspended elections, with other affected districts including Badwani, Rajgarh, Tikamgarh, Dhar, and Khargone.

Local reports suggest that BJP workers expressed dissatisfaction with the process, alleging preferential treatment for individuals who had previously belonged to the Congress party. This development comes amidst the BJP’s ongoing nationwide internal elections, culminating in the selection of the party’s national president.
