Sat Dec 21 18:27:41 UTC 2024: ## Kannada Literature Evolves: Dalit and Bandaya Voices Transform the Narrative

**Mandya, Karnataka, December 21, 2024** – The 87th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in Mandya highlighted the transformative impact of Dalit and Bandaya literature on Kannada literature. Kendra Sahitya Academy awardee Mudnakudu Chinnaswamy noted that the once-limited literary landscape, described by former Minister B. Basavalingappa as “boosa” (cow feed) due to its lack of representation of downtrodden communities, underwent a significant shift. This prompted a reassessment of Kannada literature’s scope, leading to the rise of Dalit and Bandaya voices.

Jayadevi Gaikwad, speaking on the Dalit literary movement and women, emphasized the crucial role of the Dalit Sangharsh Samitis (DSS) in Karnataka. She described the DSS as a powerful force not only advocating for Dalit rights but also actively fighting for farmers, laborers, and against injustices faced by women. Gaikwad also condemned recent derogatory remarks made against B.R. Ambedkar in Parliament, urging women to remember and uphold his contributions. The Sammelana served as a platform to celebrate this evolution and the ongoing fight for social justice within Kannada literature.
