Sat Dec 21 13:15:25 UTC 2024: **Kannada Publishing Gets a Boost from Young, Profit-Focused Publishers**
MANDYA, INDIA – December 21, 2024 – A group of first-generation Kannada publishers are revitalizing the literary scene by employing innovative marketing strategies and focusing on emerging authors. These publishers, all in their 30s and without family backgrounds in publishing, are actively using social media to reach a younger audience and combat concerns of dwindling readership in the digital age.
At the 87th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in Mandya, publishers Chand Pasha, Mudiraj Banad, Kapila P. Humanabade, and Mahantesh Patil showcased their work, offering a 40% discount to recover only printing costs. Their collective goal is to connect authors directly with readers, fostering a love for Kannada literature rather than pursuing profit.
Pasha, a PhD candidate whose poetry collection won an award, co-founded Kavyamane Prakashana to help young writers. Humanabade, a lecturer, has seen success with two reprinted books, while Banad, a postal worker, actively markets his publications at book expos and sells directly to readers at cost price. Patil, an assistant professor, also emphasizes the importance of encouraging young authors and publishers to increase Kannada readership.
The publishers believe that a dedicated readership exists, but effective engagement is key. They emphasize the importance of book expos and social media in reaching potential readers and promoting Kannada literature. Their efforts are viewed as a significant contribution to the flourishing of Kannada literature.
