**Ahmedabad, India** – The opening day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy saw a flurry of impressive performances, highlighted by Punjab’s Amolpreet Singh’s record-breaking century and Mumbai captain Shreyas Iyer’s continued dominance.

Amolpreet smashed the fastest List-A century by an Indian batsman, reaching the milestone in a mere 35 balls – a new national record. His electrifying 115* off 45 balls, including 12 fours and nine sixes, powered Punjab to a resounding victory over Arunachal Pradesh, chasing down 165 runs in just 12.1 overs. This is the third-fastest List-A century ever recorded, behind only AB de Villiers and Jake Fraser McGurk.

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer continued his stellar form, scoring a 114 off 55 balls (including 10 sixes) in Mumbai’s high-scoring encounter against Karnataka. Iyer’s innings, combined with contributions from Hardik Tamore, Ayush Mhatre, and Shivam Dube, helped Mumbai post a challenging 382/4. Karnataka, however, chased down the total in 46.2 overs thanks to a magnificent 150* from Krishnan Shrijith and fifties from KV Aneesh and Praveen Dubey.

Other notable performances included Madhya Pradesh captain Rajat Patidar’s 55 off 33 balls and Bengal’s Abhishek Porel’s unbeaten 170* in their respective matches. Delhi also put up a strong fight with half-centuries from Anuj Rawat and Himmat Singh.

Iyer’s continued success comes after a remarkable return to domestic cricket following a BCCI central contract snub. Since his return, he has amassed 1,130 runs in 20 matches, including four centuries and four fifties. His impressive form underscores his continued prowess despite the snub.
