**NEW DELHI** – A 16-year-old girl, Mahi, died from asphyxiation after a geyser gas leak in her family’s bathroom in Kuldeep Vihar colony, police reported Saturday. The incident occurred Friday while Mahi’s mother was briefly away at a nearby shop.
Upon returning, the mother found the bathroom door locked and her daughter unresponsive. Mahi’s brother, Madhav, explained that the door was locked from the outside – a precaution implemented due to previous fainting episodes the girl had experienced while bathing. Two years prior, Mahi had fainted under similar circumstances but recovered.
Emergency responders transported Mahi to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Family members believe poor bathroom ventilation contributed to the fatal gas leak. Police are investigating the incident.
