Fri Dec 20 21:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Ravens Waive Wide Receiver Diontae Johnson Ahead of Steelers Matchup

**Baltimore, MD** – The Baltimore Ravens have waived wide receiver Diontae Johnson just one day before their crucial game against his former team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. This move comes after Johnson was suspended for last week’s victory over the New York Giants due to conduct detrimental to the team, specifically for refusing to play in a previous game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Ravens and Johnson mutually agreed to excuse him from team activities this week.

Acquired from the Carolina Panthers on October 29th in a trade that involved a fifth-round draft pick, Johnson’s short stint in Baltimore yielded only one catch for six yards in four games. He had a more substantial impact during his time with the Panthers and previously with the Steelers, where he spent five seasons.

To compensate for the loss of Johnson and other injuries, the Ravens have elevated cornerback Desmond King and wide receiver Anthony Miller from the practice squad. King impressed last week with a 22-yard punt return, while Miller will fill in for injured receivers Nelson Agholor and the questionable Rashod Bateman.

In other roster moves, the team has signed linebacker Kristian Welch to the 53-man roster, while veteran safety Eddie Jackson will miss Sunday’s game for non-injury related reasons. The return of running back Keaton Mitchell bolsters the Ravens’ backfield. However, the team waived undrafted rookie Chris Collier. The Ravens also saw the return to practice of veteran nose tackle Michael Pierce, who had been sidelined since October 27th. Rookie cornerback T.J. Tampa’s 21-day practice window is open. The team also elevated NT Josh Tupou and DE Chris Wormley. The Ravens will have their full defensive line available for the game.
