Sat Dec 21 00:50:25 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Police Transfers Rahul Gandhi Assault Case to Crime Branch
**New Delhi** – The Delhi Police have transferred the First Information Report (FIR) filed against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to the Crime Branch for investigation. The FIR, filed by BJP MPs following a clash in Parliament on Thursday, alleges assault and incitement against Gandhi.
The incident stemmed from protests over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. A heated confrontation between BJP and Congress MPs at Parliament’s Makar Dwar resulted in injuries to two BJP MPs, Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, who were hospitalized.
BJP MPs Hemang Joshi, Anurag Thakur, and Bansuri Swaraj filed the complaint, accusing Gandhi of physically assaulting one of their colleagues. The charges against Gandhi include voluntary causing grievous hurt, endangering life or personal safety, criminal force, criminal intimidation, and common intention under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also filed a complaint, alleging he was physically pushed by BJP MPs. Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal dismissed the FIR against Gandhi as a “diversionary tactic” in response to his protest against Amit Shah. He described the complaint as a “badge of honour.” The Crime Branch will now investigate the matter.
