Fri Dec 20 23:58:16 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Police Crime Branch to Investigate FIR Against Rahul Gandhi for Alleged Assault on BJP MPs
**New Delhi:** The Delhi Police Crime Branch will investigate a First Information Report (FIR) filed against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for allegedly injuring two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs during a clash in the Parliament complex on Thursday. The incident occurred amidst protests over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s alleged remarks about B.R. Ambedkar.
The FIR, filed by BJP MPs Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, accuses Gandhi of causing grievous hurt and endangering the life and personal safety of others. Sarangi, 69, claims Gandhi pushed Rajput, causing him to fall and subsequently injure Sarangi. Rajput was also injured in the altercation. Both MPs are currently hospitalized.
While BJP leaders have accused Gandhi of hooliganism and attempted murder, the Congress party vehemently denies the allegations, countering that BJP MPs initiated the violence, pushing Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and physically assaulting Gandhi. A delegation of Congress MPs has also filed a complaint with the police.
The case, initially handled by local police, has been transferred to the Crime Branch for a thorough investigation. The incident has sparked a political firestorm, with both parties trading accusations of violence and employing contrasting narratives of the events. The Lok Sabha Speaker has also been requested to conduct an inquiry into the matter.
