Sat Dec 21 17:40:00 UTC 2024: ## NBC to Debut First-Ever Madden NFL Alternate Broadcast

**NEW YORK, NY** – NBC Sports is set to make history on December 21st with the first-ever alternate broadcast of an NFL game, transforming the Houston Texans vs. Kansas City Chiefs matchup into a Madden NFL video game experience. The innovative broadcast, streaming exclusively on Peacock, will blend live game action with Madden 25 graphics, offering viewers a unique perspective.

The alternate broadcast will feature a team of analysts including play-by-play commentator Paul Burmeister, Madden NFL expert Kurt Benkert, and former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco, who will act as a real-time player rating adjuster. Ultimate Madden Bowl champion Henry Leverette will also contribute. The broadcast will leverage GenuisIQ’s real-time data from the NFL’s Next Gen Stats to enhance the analysis.

Unlike traditional broadcasts, this innovative approach will incorporate Madden-style graphics, including route trees, player cards, and even in-game animations for touchdown celebrations, alongside live game footage. While the overhead camera angle common in Madden will be used for replays and pre-play formations, the primary camera angle will remain a traditional sideline view.

This project holds personal significance for NBC Sports Executive Producer Fred Gaudelli, who worked with the late John Madden during his final years in broadcasting. Gaudelli noted Madden’s emphasis on realism within the video game, a principle guiding NBC’s approach to this unprecedented broadcast.

The game itself features a compelling matchup between the AFC South champion Texans (9-5) and the AFC West-leading Chiefs (13-1). Several key players from both teams boast high Madden ratings, adding another layer of intrigue to the alternate broadcast. NBC conducted test broadcasts using recent “Sunday Night Football” games to refine the technology and team cohesion before this groundbreaking event.
