Fri Dec 20 10:57:39 UTC 2024: ## India Raises Concerns Over EU Trade Barriers, Urges Resolution in FTA Talks

**New Delhi, December 20, 2024** – India has voiced concerns to the European Union (EU) regarding barriers faced by its domestic industries in EU markets. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal raised the issue during a virtual meeting with European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maros Sefcovic on Thursday night.

The discussion, which also covered the progress of a proposed free trade agreement (FTA) between the two entities, highlighted non-tariff barriers as significant impediments to trade. Minister Goyal stressed the need for the EU to address these long-standing issues to foster trust and facilitate a successful FTA.

While both sides expressed commitment to exploring a balanced and mutually beneficial FTA, the Indian government emphasized that concluding the agreement, following nine rounds of negotiations, requires strong political will to address the sensitivities of both parties and achieve a commercially significant outcome. Minister Goyal previously stated that India would not compromise on its dairy industry in any FTA negotiations.

The statement comes amidst ongoing negotiations for a comprehensive FTA, which are expected to continue.
