**Jaisalmer, Rajasthan:** The 55th GST Council meeting, chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, concluded today in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, with several significant changes to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates. The announcements were made this evening.

Key changes include an increase in GST on used vehicles sold by businesses, including electric vehicles (EVs), from 12% to 18%. However, this increase only applies to businesses; private individuals buying and selling used vehicles will continue to pay 12% GST.

Proposals to reduce or eliminate GST on health and life insurance, and online food delivery services, were deferred.

The council did propose a tiered GST structure for popcorn: 5% GST on ready-to-eat popcorn mixed with salt and spices (unpacked); 12% on pre-packed and labeled popcorn; and 18% on caramel popcorn.

The meeting, which lasted from 11 am to 5 pm, saw discussions on various other items, but the above represent the key decisions impacting consumers and businesses.
