Sat Dec 21 15:49:15 UTC 2024: ## CPI(M) Takes Action Against Two Leaders Following Financial Fraud and Controversial Remarks
**Palakkad, Kerala – December 21, 2024** – The CPI(M) district secretariat in Palakkad has removed former MLA P.K. Sasi from his positions as CITU district president and Chumattu Thozhilali Union president. This action follows an inquiry commission’s finding that Mr. Sasi was involved in financial fraud. While the party has left the decision on his continued role as Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) chairman to the state government, Mr. Sasi’s previous refusal to resign from these posts prompted the disciplinary action. This is not Mr. Sasi’s first disciplinary action; he was previously suspended for six months in 2018 for sexual harassment.
Additionally, the party criticized State committee member and former MP N.N. Krishnadas for making controversial public statements. Mr. Krishnadas’s remarks comparing mediapersons to “dogs in front of a butcher shop,” and his dismissal of the “blue trolley” dispute as detrimental to the recent Palakkad Assembly by-election, were deemed to have negatively impacted the party’s performance. The party believes his stance validated UDF allegations of internal division within the CPI(M). The meeting concluded that the party’s loss in the by-election was due to BJP support for the Congress candidate, not a loss of CPI(M) voters. The party defended its decision to field Congress defector P. Sarin against the UDF candidate. P.N. Mohanan will replace Mr. Sasi as CITU district president, and T.M. Sasi will lead the Chumattu Thozhilali Union.
