Fri Dec 20 16:52:40 UTC 2024: **Congress Demands Release of Parliament Protest CCTV Footage**

NEW DELHI (Dec. 20, 2024) – The Congress party today challenged the BJP to release CCTV footage from Thursday’s Parliament protests, following accusations of violence between the ruling NDA and opposition INDIA blocs. Congress leaders Gaurav Gogoi and Pramod Tiwari held a press conference demanding the release of the footage to clarify who initiated the physical altercations. They also questioned the Delhi Police’s failure to register an FIR on their complaint alleging BJP MPs manhandled Congress colleagues, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge.

The dispute stems from accusations levelled by both sides regarding a protest outside Parliament. Three BJP MPs filed a complaint against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, alleging he pushed their colleagues, leading to an FIR against Gandhi. The Congress, however, insists this FIR is a diversionary tactic in response to Gandhi’s protest against Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s alleged insult to B.R. Ambedkar.

Gogoi and Tiwari reiterated their demands for an apology from Shah for his comments and for Prime Minister Modi to condemn them. They asserted that the FIR against Gandhi would not deter their pursuit of justice and accountability. The Congress leaders stated that the 12-second comment made by Shah regarding Ambedkar would have lasting consequences. Parliament concluded its session today, having been adjourned sine die.
