**Visakhapatnam, December 21, 2024** – The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has vowed to block any private entities attempting to bid on services for the Visakhapatnam Port Hospital. This follows the Visakhapatnam Port Authority’s (VPA) decision to privatize the hospital, a move that has sparked an 82-day-long protest by the CITU.
CITU State general secretary Ch. Narasinga Rao condemned the privatization effort, calling it “immoral” and highlighting the hospital’s development as a result of government and worker efforts. He accused the Narendra Modi government of prioritizing the sale of public sector undertakings (PSUs), but credited ongoing protests with preventing several privatizations. Rao expressed confidence that the CITU’s actions would successfully prevent the privatization of the Port Hospital, promising the full support of the State Committee to the ongoing protest.
