JAIPUR, INDIA—A massive explosion and fire involving an LPG tanker on the Ajmer Highway in Jaipur, India, Friday morning resulted in at least 11 deaths and 33 injuries. The incident, which occurred near Delhi Public School, caused widespread panic as people fled the scene. Witnesses described a horrific scene with intense flames and people suffering severe burns.
The initial impact was reportedly caused by a collision between the LPG tanker and a truck, leading to a gas leak that quickly ignited. Flames reportedly reached heights of 200 meters, engulfing nearby vehicles including a bus carrying 34 passengers. At least 20 passengers on the bus sustained burns; 14 passengers and the driver/conductor remain missing. The intense heat even reportedly killed birds in the vicinity.
The fire spread rapidly, affecting approximately 35-40 vehicles in the area. Survivors described a chaotic scene with people screaming for help as they were trapped in burning vehicles. One witness stated that they had never seen such a devastating accident in their life.
