Fri Dec 20 20:13:03 UTC 2024: ## Kia Syros Enters the Sub-4 Meter SUV Market, Poised to Challenge Mahindra XUV300 and Hyundai Creta
**New Delhi, [Date]** – Kia India’s latest offering, the Kia Syros, has officially launched, aiming to disrupt the competitive sub-4-meter SUV segment. Based on the popular Kia Sonet platform but boasting a distinct design and feature set, the Syros positions itself between the Sonet and Seltos in Kia’s lineup. Its key rivals are the Mahindra XUV300 and the Hyundai Creta.
The Syros features a unique design, drawing inspiration from Kia’s EV9 electric vehicle. Its front fascia incorporates a skid plate and clamshell bonnet, while the rear bears a resemblance to the Maruti Suzuki WagonR, featuring L-shaped taillights and 17-inch alloy wheels. The expansive window span contributes to its distinctive profile.
In terms of specifications, the Syros’s closest competitor is the Mahindra XUV300. Both vehicles have similar dimensions, with the Syros measuring slightly longer (3995mm vs 3990mm). The Hyundai Creta, however, is larger, exceeding 4 meters in length. While the Mahindra XUV300 offers slightly more interior width, the Kia Syros is designed for easier maneuverability. Wheelbase, ground clearance, and height are comparable across the three. A key differentiator for the Syros is its significantly larger boot space at 465 liters, exceeding both the XUV300 (364 liters) and the Creta (433 liters).
Feature-wise, the Syros and XUV300 share many similarities, including ventilated seats (with rear ventilated seats as an option on the Syros), wireless charging, rear AC vents, rear USB ports, climate control, digital instrument clusters, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) Level 2. However, the Syros stands out with its two-spoke steering wheel, flush door handles, adjustable and reclining rear seats, an 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and four-disc brakes.
The Syros introduces a turbocharged petrol engine paired with a manual transmission – a first for Kia. The 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine delivers 115 bhp and 178 Nm of torque, while the 1.5-liter diesel engine produces 113 bhp and 250 Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic, and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The Mahindra XUV300’s base model utilizes a 1.2-liter petrol engine (110 bhp, 200 Nm), while the Hyundai Creta offers a 1.5-liter engine (113 bhp, 144 Nm).
The Mahindra XUV300 starts at ₹7.79 lakh, while pricing for the Kia Syros is yet to be announced, but is expected to start around ₹9 lakh. The Hyundai Creta’s starting price is over ₹10 lakh.
The Kia Syros and Mahindra XUV300 are expected to be in direct competition. While the XUV300 might offer a stronger on-road presence, the Syros boasts a more advanced feature set. The final verdict on its competitiveness will depend on its official pricing and how it stacks up against the XUV300 within the same price bracket.
