**Srinagar, December 19, 2024** – Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi today to discuss the restoration of statehood to the Union Territory. The meeting, the second between the two since Mr. Abdullah assumed office, focused on the challenges faced by the newly elected government in its first two months.

Mr. Abdullah confirmed that the restoration of statehood was a key topic of discussion, expressing hope for continued efforts to benefit the people of J&K. He also highlighted the need for central support in effective governance, citing hurdles encountered by his administration.

While the Chief Minister clarified that the drafting of the Transaction of Business Rules (TBR), outlining roles within the J&K government, is an internal matter, he did not disclose its current status. He emphasized that the TBR will be determined by the elected government, approved by the cabinet, and then submitted to the Lieutenant Governor.

Separately, Home Minister Shah chaired a security review meeting for J&K, attended by top officials including the Lieutenant Governor, military and police chiefs, and intelligence agency heads. The meeting focused on a detailed security roadmap to counter militancy and cross-border infiltration. Officials briefed Mr. Shah on existing security measures and new initiatives to combat militancy and separatism.
