**HYDERABAD, December 20, 2024** – Tensions ran high in Alkapuri township, Manikonda, on Thursday following the demolition of illegal commercial properties on the ground floor of the Anuhar Morning Raaga apartment complex. The demolition, carried out by Manikonda municipal authorities with the assistance of the Hyderabad Disaster Response & Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), followed complaints from 38 residents.
According to a HYDRAA statement, the building only possessed residential permits, despite several commercial units operating for years. Traders occupying these spaces, who claimed to have paid property, commercial, and power taxes as commercial entities, opposed the demolition. Residents, however, had reportedly filed a police complaint three years ago regarding the unauthorized commercial activities.
HYDRAA Commissioner A. V. Ranganath personally inspected the building two weeks prior, confirming the lack of commercial permits. The municipal authorities had previously issued notices to the builder, which went unanswered. Demolition notices were subsequently issued with ample warning, HYDRAA stated. The statement also attributed structural damage to the construction of a strong room for a bank operating within the building. The situation remains tense following the action.
