**Mumbai, India** – The death toll from Wednesday’s boat accident near the Gateway of India in Mumbai has climbed to 14, officials confirmed Thursday. The passenger ferry, *Neelkamal*, capsized after colliding with an Indian Navy boat. Rescue teams recovered another body overnight, though its identity remains unconfirmed. Two individuals are still missing, and search and rescue operations involving eight Navy vessels and a helicopter, supported by a Coast Guard vessel, continue.

The collision occurred due to an engine malfunction on the Navy boat during engine trials. The Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi expressed condolences to the victims’ families and wished a speedy recovery for the injured. A Board of Inquiry has been launched to investigate the incident.

A total of 105 people were admitted to hospitals following the accident; 90 have since been discharged or are in stable condition. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh from the PMNRF for each deceased, while Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis pledged Rs 5 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The state government assures full assistance to those affected.
