Fri Dec 20 03:32:52 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Police Files FIR Against Rahul Gandhi Following Parliament Clashes

**New Delhi:** Delhi Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi based on a complaint filed by BJP MP Hemang Joshi. The FIR stems from a heated confrontation between BJP and Congress MPs on Thursday within the Parliament complex, sparked by earlier comments made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

The complaint alleges that Gandhi incited violence and physically assaulted BJP MPs during a protest. Joshi claimed Gandhi forcefully pushed through security, endangering the safety of several MPs, including Mukesh Rajput, who allegedly suffered a head injury, and Pratap Rao Sarangi, who reportedly sustained a forehead injury. BJP MP Anurag Thakur echoed these allegations, adding claims of misconduct towards a female BJP MP. The FIR includes charges under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including those related to voluntarily causing hurt, endangering life, and criminal intimidation.

Congress vehemently denies the allegations, countering with claims that BJP MPs assaulted party president Mallikarjun Kharge and physically manhandled Rahul Gandhi. A Congress delegation has filed a separate complaint with the police alleging misconduct by BJP MPs. They have also written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla seeking an investigation.

Congress MP Manickam Tagore dismissed the FIR as a “diversionary tactic” aimed at silencing dissent over the Ambedkar remarks. He criticized the Delhi Police for allegedly ignoring complaints filed by Congress women MPs against BJP members. Despite the FIR and numerous other complaints filed, Tagore asserted the Congress would continue its opposition to the BJP. The incident highlights the escalating tensions between the ruling BJP and the opposition INDIA bloc.
